This ward comprises various fully-equipped units such as Blood Bank, Blood Gas, Pathology, Biochemistry, Hematology, Serology, Microbiology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis. The Biochemistry Unit is the largest one among this Center’s laboratory units and performs an impressive array of speedy and accurate tests - including blood sugar, electrolytes, lipids, liver enzymes, cardiac enzymes, thyroid enzymes, prostate-specific antigen screening, hepatitis, and AIDS. The Coagulation Unit renders coagulation tests such as prothrombin time tests for the Center’s cardiac patients. The Blood Bank performs blood grouping (typing), cross-matching, and antibody screening. The Hematology Unit is responsible for blood cell differentiation tests. The Microbiology Unit plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of diseases by performing culture tests on samples of pleural fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, sputum, urine, etc. The Serology Unit is tasked with the diagnostic tests for brucellosis (Malta fever), typhoid fever, rheumatism, syphilis, and Gravindex. The Blood Gas Unit is adjacent to the Operating Rooms because of the significance of urgent blood gas and blood electrolyte tests. And finally, the Pathology Unit diagnoses various kinds of cancer, and performs cytologic and serosanguineous fluid evaluation as well as pathologic investigation of various body tissues.
